No matter which instrument you play, which piece you’re tackling, or how difficult it is – sometimes, despite all the love, passion and effort, there’s still plenty of frustration. That frustration can sometimes show up as spiteful, self-critical thoughts that completely sap your motivation. Speaking for myself, I’ve never met a musician who’s entirely free from these thoughts – myself included. But why do they crop up, and why are they so draining? More importantly, is there anything you can do about them? That’s what I’d like to explore here – for myself and for you – without dishing out any “instant psychoanalysis”. Instead, think of this as a little self-reflection, which I suspect will have more than a few of you nodding along in recognition.

Why have I chosen to self-publish my compositions, and what does fairness in the music publishing industry truly mean in terms of the value of fairness in music publishing?
Composers and arrangers dedicate countless hours and immense creativity to their work, crafting pieces that resonate with audiences and elevate musical expression. Platforms like ArrangeMe and Musicnotes Marketplace enable creators to share their works with a global audience, but they impose hefty fees on these creators—taking up to 50% of revenue from original compositions and as much as 90% from arrangements of copyrighted works.

With all the curves, corners, dead ends, bumpy roads, and one-way streets, life is rarely perfect… but that’s what makes its beauty. With the beautiful words “Love your curves and all your edges, all your perfect imperfections” by John on my mind, I recorded my piano improvisation almost 8 years ago.
Once again, I dug out an old arrangement from my notebook and transcribed it with the help of my own recordings. Like visiting an old friend, it was nice to let the old ideas flow through my fingers onto the keyboard again. Many parts were familiar, but here and there were some bars that revealed themselves to me in a new enchantment. A beautiful memory, held firmly with notes.

As the soft melody of Ed Sheeran’s “Photograph” fills the air, memories come rushing back. It’s a song that encapsulates moments frozen in time, emotions woven into each note. And now, I’m thrilled to share with you my piano arrangement of this beautiful piece.
Capturing the essence of a song like “Photograph” is no small feat. It’s a delicate balance of preserving the original’s sentiment while infusing it with a new musical perspective. For me, this arrangement was a labor of love, a journey of exploration through chords and melodies.

American composer Jimmy Webb penned one of the most beautiful songs ever written for an animated film. The very first line of the song will evoke the childhood memories of past Christmas holidays to which this beautiful film is linked.
“The Last Unicorn” is a beautiful and magical childhood moment for many of us. The complexity of the plot, the development of the individual characters and their relationship to one another, the incorporation of motifs from different mythologies and the sublime symbolism clearly go beyond the scope of the “animation” genre, but not at the expense of magic and imagination.
As profound as the artistic layers of the film might be, the elegance of the music is in no way inferior to the complexity of the plot and the graphic implementation.
